Preferred celebrity holiday destinations, sports cars, beautiful Mediterranean sea and traditional French coastal architecture are only some of the aspects that Côte d’Azur has to offer. At Epicwander we have established tips for you to enjoy a trip to the French Riviera and Nice in particular.

Essence of Nice

Place Masséna is the main square of the city and one of the most important sites to visit. In addition, it also features an installation of seven statues that each represent one of the continents and the communication between communities. Masséna is a city centre connection of the main shopping streets, touristic attractions and seasonal festivals, such as Christmas market, but it also features a beautiful fountain park. An entire field next to the square features a series of fountains that make it a perfect refreshing attraction during the summer and amazing location to take pictures.

Vieille Ville

Vieille Ville (old town) is perhaps the most colorful neighborhood of Nice. It recalls entirely French atmosphere and it is one of our main recommendations for a perfectly local dinner experience. For instance, we would advise you to try local Salade Nicoise in one of the Place Rossetti restaurants. In fact, you may sometimes find a fish market right in the centre of the district with some fresh delicacies for your table. However, if you are visiting Nice on Monday, head towards the Marche a la Brocante (antique market), as they are amazing in France and part of the tradition.

Amazing Cote d’Azur

Promenade des Anglais is perhaps the most famous Nice attraction from the postcards, but it should not be missed out. Promenade along the Mediterranean is a perfect option for a romantic evening walk or an early morning jogging. Moreover, it is the main city location to go to a beach and with a lot of private beach restaurants, you will be enjoying the turquoise Mediterranean water with a refreshing cocktail in your hand.

Not many visitors know that Nice has its own annual carnival. If your trip is fortunately booked for this specific period, you will not be disappointed. Carnival is being held annually since 1876 and it celebrates Mediterranean expertise. During the festival, carnival participants throw flowers into the public that are mostly locally grown. Beautiful festive decorations, tons of colorful flowers and amazing Mediterranean weather are bound to make your day exceptional.

Cap Ferrat

Situated between Nice and Monaco, this coast allows to escape touristic atmosphere and be completely involved in the local culture. Perhaps you might even bump into the celebrity while on your vacation in Cap Ferrat.

Èze is one of the most beautiful tiny villages throughout an entire France. This ancient medieval village right on the top of the mountain is still crowned with the 12th century fortified castle ruins. It is reachable with a public transport from the Nice city center and it makes a perfect day getaway.

However, this city is also worth the visit due to its perfume fabrics. Èze has two perfumeries, Gallimard, and Fragonard, which are both open to the public. In the factory, you are able to take a tour and find out perfume making process, where you can also shop in the factory’s perfume store on the first floor. In addition, if you would like something exclusive, it is possible to order your personal fragrance and assemble it together with a professional perfume maker. Even few Hollywood celebrities had their fragrance made in the perfumeries of Fragonard and Gallimard.

From the most expensive sports cars to royalty, Monaco offers truly upper-class vacation experience. Located only short distance from Nice, Monaco is a definite must-visit place of the region. In fact, at Epicwander we strongly advise you to visit Grand Casino of Monte Carlo. Even if you will decide not to gamble alongside world’s richest, terrace in the back of the building offers breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea. Right next to the Grand Casino is a famous Hotel de Paris, Monte Carlo, highly popular among celebrities. It even appeared as a location for the famous French movie Hors de Prix. On the other hand, if you are a fan of speed and racing, you will be glad to know that Monaco’s streets host the famous Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Cannes is an undeniable capital of French cinematography. Even if you did not manage to visit this city during the festival, there is still a lot to see. For instance, Le Suquet has many picturesque streets and cafes. Boulevard de la Croisette, on the other hand, is important boutique location and also a promenade along the turquoise coast. The promenade also features famous palace of the Cannes Movie Festival and nearby the venue you will be able to notice handprints of the celebrities. Perhaps your handprint will perfectly match with one of the Hollywood icons?

Menton is the last stop on the French Riviera before the Italian border, yet it is perhaps the most important destination for travelers, who want to escape traditional Cote d’Azur destinations. Menton is completely undiscovered by tourists and it is entirely covered with traditional pastel building. Therefore, you will be able to experience restaurants, beach or old town streets entirely from the local’s perspective.

Picturesque Train Trip

French people truly enjoy traveling by train. We must agree that it is one of the most comfortable ways to enjoy beautiful scenery outside of the window. However, we strongly recommend you to take a trip on the Train Des Merveilles. This Train departs from Nice every day and it is now one of the most beautiful routes in the world. Mesmerizing views of small French villages, bridge passages, Mediterranean Sea and even a professional guide telling everything about the traditions. It will certainly make a trip to the French coast an unforgettable experience.

As you can see, there are numerous paramount destinations on the Cote d’Azur. They are all easily accessible from the regional capital. We would, therefore, advise you to fully experience Nice and take day trips to the other parts of the coast. Perhaps you will be lucky to see a celebrity on a walk along the promenade.
